For over 8 years the community of St Therese has graciously raised funds in support of the Children's Food & Nutrition Program which was started by KUSARD in St. Cecilia almost a decade ago. The program has grown in popularity since it is the only one of the kind in the whole district of Makueni and has attracted much demand with many schools begging to be considered. Not to break the back of the camel with the demand, we decided to limit the schools on the program to at least 15.
In each school about 100 kids ranging from Nursery school age to Standard Two are being given a hot meal in the school each day. Our reason to only include the smallest ones is because of their vulnerability, especially since the funds could not suffice for all the kids in each school to partake of the meals. Nevertheless, the parents are really overjoyed for this blessing and are very grateful and pray for the preservation of the relationship and the friendship which has made these things possible.
In pursuing what has become a tradition each year, the fundraiser took place two months after Bishop Martin departed the States. He had visited St. Therese once again to thank them for the support his diocese receives from them through the sisterhood initiative.
Emma having visited St. Cecilia early this year in March was the guest speaker this year. She moved her congregation almost to tears with her account of her visit, explaining in details how she was warmly welcomed and embraced by a people she had not known before and yet, as if they had known her all their lives, treated her like loyalty.
